Fasha Mahjoor, Phenomenex CEO, Shaves Head for Charity Along with Colleagues Around the World

Torrance, CA (May 27, 2015) – In celebration of 33 years of success, Phenomenex staff in its 16 companies around the world pledged to either shave their heads (including CEO, Fasha Mahjoor!) or dye their hair a crazy color to honor the grand accomplishment. Certainly, fun and great humor are at the center of every celebration, but heartfelt pledges were made with the overarching promise by the company that with each and every single shave or color by a member of their staff worldwide, Phenomenex will donate $500 to a charity of their choosing, and then continue to donate this amount for each month they keep their new look through the month of October.

When asked why the company is doing this, Vice President Doug McCrory exclaimed, “Why not?! In the 33 years since our beginning, we have always made it our goal to shatter the ‘traditional’ ways of business culture and aimed instead to be fresh, inspired, and to be the company others wish to imitate. We are never dull, stale or boring in anything we do and seek to be creative and to set new, higher standards of greatness. We go through such lengths for a good laugh and most poignantly, for a good cause.”

Heads are still being shaved and hair is still being colored, but in the past month alone, 23 gentlemen have shaved their heads and 15 ladies have dyed their hair throughout Phenomenex’s companies, which means that if each of these staff members keeps their look for the entirety of the campaign, Phenomenex will donate $114,000 to charity.

Just before Fasha Mahjoor, the President and CEO of Phenomenex, sat down in a chair to have his own head shaved by a colleague, he said, “Of course I am not afraid of how I might look! On the contrary. I know I’m a devilishly handsome fellow and shaving my head will simply make me drop-dead gorgeous!” Mahjoor is known for always making jokes at his own expense.

Some of the charities that will be receiving donations as a result of the campaign are the American Red Cross (USA), The Outward Bound Trust (UK), Doctors without Borders (USA), UNICEF (France), British Red Cross (UK), MacMillan Cancer Support (UK), Virlanie (France), Plan International (Germany), DKMS (Germany), Stop Hunger Now Italia (Italy), AISM (Italy), Piccolo Principe (Italy), KWF (Benelux), War Child (Benelux), Noedhjaelp (Denmark), Cheers Foundation (India), Kiva (Australia), Reledev (Australia/New Zealand), and Fred Hollows Foundation (Australia/New Zealand).

Due to the devastation caused by earthquakes in Nepal, it is without a doubt that the majority of these donations will go directly to the local Red Cross in each country to help with the victims of the disaster. A full update on the monies raised over the six month campaign will be sent out in October.
